We could talk for hours but we won't get very far
I steer the conversation just as badly as my car
While up is up and down is down we're somewhere in between
And every time we move we're walking sideways
What's communication when you don't know what to say
Terrorising telephones - that shouldn't be the way
But you're not here and I'm not there - we're somewhere in between
And every time we move we're walking sideways
You go your way, I'll go my way
Seems like we're still walking sideways
Walking till we're falling off the world (who say's it's round?)
I'll never be an Adam and you'll never be an Eve
We're evolution's poor solution - nothing to conceive
I'm not happy, I'm not sad - I'm somewhere in between
And every time we move we're walking sideways
And every time we move
- and every time we move
- and every time we move we're walking sideways
Notes:
This song originally appeared on "Revenge of The Sponge Fingers" by Syd Meats, recorded in 1993 (see
meatsography ).
More recently, a version was featured by
Boothby Graffoe
in his show "Boothby Graffoe In No Particular Order" which was broadcast
on 6th March 2003.
The lyrics of the Boothby Graffoe version
are changed a little. It is an excellent version featuring some nice guitar work. In the version
broadcast on 6th March, Boothby is joined by
Antonio Forcione
on guitar and the voice giving the answers to the question "Who says it's round?" is Steve Frost.
There is an
on-line review
of a live recording made on 29 November 2002 which mentions Richard Holgarth as guitarist, so maybe another version
has also been recorded.
Thanks to Boothby and Antonio for the new version, and thanks to the BBC for the cheque !
